PostSubject: over/under-cutting   19/6/2014, 16:50

ok so I have been pc'ing for quite a while now and while pc'ing I've been enforcing not to undercut or overcut the margins I give more than a few k as this would decrease the margin and be unfair to people obeying margins, waiting and using the 25k rule. Today I was surprised to be informed by Fakedave that their is no such requirement/rule. I though that this was very ironic as we have such a rule stating to only lower/higher prices after waiting the given amount of time (30 minutes).

If players can use whatever price they please than why do we have such a rule?

When I asked Fakedave why over/under-cutting the only reply I was that it has been that way for a long time...

The only thing that under/over-cutting would do is shrink the profit margin because people arent patient enough to wait 30 min, wasn't flipping all about patience (?)...

*sorry for the long post I'm a bit aggravated right now  Sad  I didn't mean to offend anyone in any way long story short I think we should add a rule against over/under-cutting.

well the problem is, that if we should instate that rule, people still will cut, but wont give reports to pcers, cause they know tthey could be kicked when they say the bought/sold it on lower margin then given, so it will get harder for the pcer to get reliable updates. also now we can controle the cutting, by calling 'try to keep cutting to a minimum'.

Yeah, I see what you're saying. When I first started I wondered why cutting is allowed, and if it wouldn't just ruin the margin, but really if you just use a bit of logic, margins can still be updated properly based on those reports.

Here on this guide: http://flipchat1fc.forumotion.com/t40-how-to-pricecheck-as-a-pc-er

Me paraphrasing it:

Let’s say pc’er said AH: 4000-4500
For cuts bigger than 75k
Example scenario:
Player: AH Sold 4400 ~2 mins

That wouldn’t influence the margin as it’s a cut of 100k
Cuts bigger than 75k doesn’t affect the margins if buy price/sell price is lower than 15 minutes
NB: This applies only when rule isn’t applied, and a person just uc (undercuts) unnecessarily

How to handle cuts:
Player: AH buy 4033 ~15 minutes
Margin would change from 4000-4500 to 4025-4500 (closest rounded down number)
Tl;dr if a person cuts (didn’t apply rule) and it buys/sell in less than 15 min, doesn’t affect margin
If it does you can change to that price, thus margins aren’t affected at all Razz
When it takes over 15 minutes to buy at a margin that was uc, it’s saying that it wouldn’t buy/sell at a margin that’s not uc, thus why you would update it.
If it’s less than 15 minutes and person uc, margin stays, that’s all (because it would still buy/sell at the margin that wasn't uc)
Otherwise when a person doesn’t cut and applies 25k/30 minute rule, regular updating rules take place!

The paraphrased article indicated about cuts greater than 75k, but in reality if

AH:4000-4500

And someone nib AH at 4010 in less than 15 minutes (say 4 minutes) same logic would apply and margin would remain at 4000-4500.

But if someone took say 1 hour to buy @4010, you as the pc'er you could opt to update margin to 4025-5000 to see how long it would take to buy there, and take it from there.

Hey Smile

My kinda input on this is that before we've tried to control cutting multiple ways but at the end of the day it is impossible to stop someone cutting unless we physically flip for them, which is impossible unless you break a ton of rules... don't want that really Razz

Unless some sort of system is implemented by Jagex we have no control :/

as i already stated before, not allowing cutting, will only make ppl not giving reports cause they have cut. Or even worse> give false reports, cause they have cut. Also prices continually change so only by adjusting price (prefered with the adviced rule of 25k/30min) we can update margins.
to keep every1 happy
