Flipping
Flipping is the simple act of buying an item at a certain price (low) and selling it for a higher price (high). The profit is equal to the sell price minus the buy price.
Example:I buy an item for 500gp (low) I sell the item for 550gp (high)
=> Profit: 550gp – 500gp = 50gp

The grand exchange
I won't explain the economy system in Runescape, but these are the essential things you need to know.
1) Each item has a certain buy limit, this means you can only buy a certain amount of an item every 4 hours. This limit is only applied when you are buying items, you can sell as many items as you want, unlimited. There is a list of all the buy limits of the items we do below.
2) The med price on the GE has nothing to do with our margins, our margins are based on the prices on that precise moment, the GE prices are often outdated.
Notes: Click here for the Wikia guide on the Grand Exchange Click here for the Wikia list of the buy limits of every item in RS

- 1.3:
Requesting a margin
If there is a pc’er (price checker) online in the chat, you can ask for the margin of an individual item or a whole line. You can do this by typing the following in the friends chat:
For individual items: The abbreviation of the item followed by ‘please’ and a question mark. Example: bh please?
For lines: The abbreviation of the line followed by ‘please’ and a question mark. Example: bline please? IMPORTANT: - Don’t ask twice for the same pc or line within 30 seconds, most of the time the pc’er has seen your request, but he may be busy, have some respect and be patient! - Don’t put a lot of ‘?’ or ‘!’ behind requests, this is just annoying and you might get kicked for symbol spamming. - Remember to always put 'please' after a request, this is just normal behaviour in my opinion, if you want something, say please.
Using the margin
When the pc’er responded to your request, he will give you 2 numbers, these numbers are prices in thousands (k).
Example: bh: 3625 – 3750
The first number is the price you buy the item at, and the second number is the price you sell at. So you buy a bandos helmet on the grand exchange for 3,625,000GP and sell it for 3,750,000GP. The profit is 125,000GP.
- 1.4:
If there is no pc'er online but you want margins, you can visit our forums (the website you're on now). If you have already registered an account on our forums, you just go to this link for the margins, and you click on the post with today's date. If you don't already have an account, you click 'register' (the blue button on the top). Good luck!
- 1.5:
It 's possible that your item doesn’t buy as fast as you would want it to, but remember, in Flipchat1, the price checkers give you margins, that try to make buy/sell times less than 30 minutes, so don’t freak out if your item hasn’t bought in 10 minutes, patience is a virtue.
When you have waited 30 minutes already, and your item hasn't bought or sold, don’t panic, we have a simple solution for that, this is called ‘THE RULE’. The rule simply states that when you have waited 30 minutes, and your item hasn’t bought yet, you should increase the buying price with 25k, and that you should decrease the price 25k after 30 minutes of waiting for it to sell.
The rule: 25k/30minutes
This rule is also called ‘R’ Rx1 = You used the rule once (original price raised by 25k) Rx2 = you used the rule twice (original price raised by 50k) Rx3 = you used the rule three times (original price raised by 75k) Rxn = you used the rule n-times (original price raised by n times 25k)
! Do not report incompletes, don’t tell the pc’er that you are waiting and waiting for your item to buy/sell, just apply this rule and you will be fine!
- 1.6:
Overcutting: Buying an item for more than the given margin. Undercutting: Selling an item for less than the given margin.
In Flipchat1 we try to get the highest possible profit out of our flips, because you can just buy one of them every 4 hours. We really recommend that you don’t overcut/undercut more than 5k. If people overcut/undercut a lot, the margins will collapse for everyone, and you will make less profit.
Applying the rule (see 1.5) is not considered cutting, because you have already waited 30 minutes for it to buy/sell.
If you're overcutting or undercutting, please use the abbrevations OC or UC in your reports.
- 1.7:
You should always always always tell the active pc’er when one of your items has bought/sold. This is called ‘reporting’, and it will help the pc’er a lot to keep the margins updated, and this will make the buying/selling times faster for you. So it's really in your best interest to report!
You should always state these things in your report: 1) The name of the item you are talking about (see abbreviations, 1.3) 2) If your are reporting a buy or sell, there are 4 possible types:
a) Inb = Instant buy: this is when you were trying to buy an item and it bought immediately b) Nib = Non instant buy: this is when you were trying to buy and item and it took a certain amount of time to buy c) Ins = Instant sell: this is when you were trying to sell an item and it sold immediately d) Nis = Non instant sell: this is when you were trying to sell and item and it took a certain amount of time to sell ! ‘Almost’ instant sell/buy doesn’t exist, it is instant or it is not! 3) How many times you applied the rule (see 1.6) 4) The time it took to buy/sell
(If you haven't used the rule, please use OC (overcut) or UC (undercut) in your reports.)
Example: Bh nis @ 3625 rx1 15 minutes This report tells the pc’er that you first tried to sell a bandos helmet for 3650, that it then didn’t sell after 30 minutes, that you lowered the price with 25k (as the rule states), and it sold after 15 minutes after you lowered the price with 25k. Only report the time AFTER last adjustment, and NOT the total time taken
!Do not report incompletes, don’t tell the pc’er that you are waiting and waiting for your item to buy/sell, just apply this rule and you will be fine!
- 1.8:
There is a Flipping Log under the ‘flipping logs’ thread on the forums that can show you what profit you could/should/can/will make on every item, this varies every day. Flipchat1 doesn’t guarantee any profit, but I can tell you that 95%+ of our members do J

FAQ: (original version by Zvayn)
Q: Why is there no Pc’er? A: Pc’ers volunteer their time out of the day to help the chat by quoting prices and updating them. Pc’ing does take effort with this many items so sometimes there just isn’t anyone who is willing to Pc at that moment. Please refer to our forums for the most updated margins until someone decides to be awesome and Pc for everyone.
Q: Can I Pc? A: YES! Anyone can Pc. Before you do though, please be familiar with how Pc’ing works. Watch what they do and learn. Also check out Muratscha’s guide “How to PriceCheck as a Pc’er” under Margins in our forums. When you finish Pc’ing, make sure to update the forums and keep track of the amount of time you spent Pc’ing and your total time overall.
Q: How do I get ranked? A: By Pc’ing. Pc’ers don’t get payment or anything, but it does help you become a rank and earns you respect in the chat. Some people have told me that I’m their favorite Pc’er. It’s an honor to have people think highly of me like that.
Q: Why don’t you flip Fury, Godswords, etc? A: Fury’s are 100/4 and Godswords are 10/4, meaning that you can self check them, so there is no point in Pc’ing them in the chat. It doesn’t work out.
Q: How would you self check an item? A: You buy the first one instantly by adding +5% on the GE a few times, then instant sell it by pressing -5% a few times. Look at your history, the price you instant bought it for is the sell price, the price you instant sold it for is the buy price. That is your margin, record it in Notepad or on a piece of paper.
Q: How much should I start flipping with here? A: I recommend having 5-10 mil at least for this chat. People in the chat have been successfully flipping here with as little as 1 mil. It’s all up to you. The more you have, the more you can work with and the more you can make.
Q: Do I have too much money to flip here? A: No, this chat is still good when you have hundreds of mil such as me, but if if you want to flip higher priced items, you could go to 'Nex and SS', '90weaps pc' or 'R Quark'.
